'Purple Majesty' ornamental mullet has been awarded the AAS Gold Medal flower winner for 2003. A truly unique ornamental grass, 'Purple Majesty' has deep-purple leaves with a red mid-rib. The tight flower stalk, which can reach up to 5 feet high, starts out golden when covered with pollen, then turns purple as the seed matures. Birds love the seeds and the seed stalks are beautiful in floral arrangements.

Seed of 'Purple Majesty' is widely available in retail seed racks. It grows best in full sun and warm soil. For a stunning show in pots or flowerbeds, combine it with white, blue or red petunias or vinca. 'Purple Majesty' also looks good with white cosmos or red zinnias.
