Landscape Fabrics Prevent Weeds
If you're planning to do some new landscaping, consider installing landscape fabric before planting. Landscape fabrics are porous cloth-like materials that allow water to pass through but prevent weeds. They are especially useful in large plantings of ground covers.
Simply roll the fabric out over prepared soil and secure in place with metal stakes provided by the manufacturer. To plant, cut small X-shaped holes in the fabric, set the plant in the ground, and snug the fabric up around the stem of the plant. Install drip irrigation on top of the fabric and then cover the entire planted area with attractive mulch like wood chips or ground bark.
