Controlling Indoor Pests

As summer winds down, outdoor insects like ants, roaches, spiders and other insects continue their trek inside. Here are some things you can do to reduce indoor pest problems now and in fall, winter and even later.

First, use Bayer Advanced™ Complete Insect Killer For Soil & Turf Ready-To-Spray or concentrate to treat the outdoor perimeter of your home. Spray a band about 3 to 4 feet wide (for serious infestations increase the band up to 10 feet wide) that extends at least 12 inches up the side of the building. Make sure to get around patios and porches, and pay special attention to cracks, crevices, entries to the home or anywhere two dissimilar building materials meet. If pests are present, spray garages, driveways and walkways.

Indoors, use Bayer Advanced™ Home Pest plus Germ* Killer Indoor and Outdoor Insect Killer Ready-To-Use Nested Sprayer, which provides up to 12 months’ indoor protection** and reduces 99.9% of the germs insects may leave behind (in California and New York, use Bayer Advanced™ Home Pest Control Indoor/Outdoor Insect Killer Ready-To-Spray). Spray around baseboards, cracks and crevices and other places where insects live and hide, such as under sinks, cabinets, refrigerators and damp areas.

Let the spray dry undisturbed.

Follow the instructions on the label, making sure not to spray surfaces where food is prepared. Keep kids and pets out of the sprayed area until the spray has dried.

If you are looking for an easy way to control roaches, use Bayer Advanced™ Dual Action Roach Killer Power Pen™ Ready-To-Use. Its innovative push-button control makes treating for roaches easier than ever before – no odor, no mess. The 2-in-1 formula attracts and kills, starts killing overnight and keeps on killing roaches for months.

The new, innovative battery-powered pen:

  • Dispenses clean white gel in precise amounts
  • Works exactly where you need it
  • Provides better coverage than bait stations
  • Eliminates the overspray and waste of aerosols

One pen treats an entire house – providing more coverage than two aerosol cans. Controlling roaches in and around your home has never been easier with Bayer Advanced™ Dual Action Roach Killer Power Pen™ Ready-To-Use.

Here are some additional steps that will help keep pests to a minimum.

Keep indoors clean. Clean up often, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. Wipe down counters and sweep floors regularly. Also keep cupboards and storage areas clean. Even the smallest of crumbs or tiniest spill can be a full meal for ants and roaches.

Store pet foods in sealed containers. Many insects, especially ants, love pet foods as much as people food. Clean up after pets have eaten. Store foods in sealed containers.

Seal food tightly. Make sure insects can’t get in packages of cereal, sugar, cookies and other loose food materials in cupboards and storage areas. If necessary, store items in sealed containers.

Seal entry points. Follow a trail of ants to where they are entering the house. Seal the area with caulking.

Move firewood and piles of debris away from the house. They can encourage pest build-ups near the house.

And then there’s the rest of the garden

Controlling insect pests that live on or in the soil in your lawn and around your home used to take a two-pronged attack. If you had belowground pests, such as white grubs or mole crickets, that feed on the roots of your lawn, there was one solution. If you had aboveground lawn pests like chinch bugs or cutworms, which feed on grass blades, or even nuisance pests like ants, fleas and ticks, there was an entirely different solution.

But what if you had both aboveground and belowground pests – root-eating grubs and blade sucking chinch bugs? That meant you had to buy two different products and make two separate applications.

Not any more. Bayer Advanced™ Complete Insect Killer For Soil & Turf Ready-To-Spray combines two ingredients, providing protection against both aboveground and belowground insects. In fact, it protects against soil insects for up to three months.

When used according to label directions, Bayer Advanced™ Complete Insect Killer For Soil & Turf Granules will effectively control the following insects within the indicated treatment areas:

To control pests in and around the lawn:

When Surface Control is All You Need …

Bayer Advanced™ PowerForce® Multi-Insect Killer Granules is the solution. It kills insects like ants, roaches and crickets, and protection lasts for 30 days.

When Grub Control is All You Need

White grub damage is usually most severe in late summer. Here also are some simple but effective ways to identify white grubs. Look for the following symptoms:

  • A general thinning and weakening of the lawn.
  • A wilted or dried-out look to your grass, even when soil is moist.
  • Large, brown, irregular patches of grass.
  • Large patches of dead turf that can easily be pulled up in one piece, much like a piece of carpet. You’ll find the C-shaped grubs underneath.
  • Moles, birds or raccoons digging in your grass; these animals love to feed on grubs, so frequent visits could be a sign of white grubs.

To control grubs now, apply Bayer Advanced™ 24-Hour Grub Killer Plus Granules this month. One application will kill grubs within 24 hours.
