Care for roses – Remove faded flowers, cutting back to the first leaf with five leaflets. Roses, such as floribundas and shrubs, which bloom in clusters, can be lightly sheared after blooms fade. Check landscape trees – Examine lower trunks for chewing damage from mice and other rodents. If necessary, protect with plastic trunk guards available at nurseries and garden centers and loosen tight ties and/or remove stakes on young trees.

Control and prevent lawn diseases – Use Bayer Advanced™ Fungus Control for Lawns Granules to control and prevent lawn diseases such as brown patch and summer patch.

Control garden weeds – Garden weeds are easiest to control when young. Use an appropriate herbicide, hoe or pull by hand. Plant flowers – There’s still time to plant summer bulbs such as gladiolus, calla lilies and dahlias. Water lawns – Make sure sprinklers are operating properly. Follow local watering guidelines available from water department or cooperative extension office.
