When to Plant

Plant strawberries as soon as ground can be worked in spring.
TIP: Plant strawberries on a cloudy day or in late afternoon.

What to look for

In 4-6 weeks, your plants should start to develop fruit, and produce runners that will create new daughter plants.

How to Plant

  • Plant in full sun – strawberries require 6-10 hours a day
  • Plant in well-drained soil – raised beds are good options
  • Soil should just cover the tops of the roots – do not cover the crown
  • Space 10-20” apart – runners will grow daughter plants
  • Water 1” per week – especially in spring and fall
Carrots

When to Plant

Plant seeds 3-5 weeks before the last spring frost date in your area.

What to look for

Carrots mature around 2.5 months and .5” in diameter
TIP: Carrots taste much better after a few frosts.

How to Plant

  • Plant in loose, well-drained soil – to prevent forking and stimulate root growth
  • Make sure soil is deeply-tilled – so carrots can push through
  • Space 3-4” apart in rows – rows should be at least 1’ apart
  • Water at least 1” per week
  • Fertilize 5-6 weeks after sowing
